Vehicle Emission Testing Programme

   

The CleanCo Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a joint venture company of Akbar Brothers Ltd and ISB was awarded the contract of issuing emission certificate which will be mandatory from 15th July, 2008. Therefore, 16 main stations and 50 mobile stations will be in operation throughout the island.

One of the main stations at Kiribathgoda was Ceremonially opened with the blessings of Hon. Patali Champika Ranawaka – Minister of Environment & Natural Resources, Hon. Dullas Alahaperuma – Minister of Railways and Transport and Hon. Lasantha Alagiyawanna – Minister of Passenger Transport on 15th July, 2008.

The total investment is over Rs. 550 million for this project and managed to provide employment opportunities for around 150 personnel. Other main testing stations are located at  Welisara, Mirihana, Moratuwa, Wadduwa, Gampaha, Negombo, Kandy, Kurunegala, Badulla, Galle, Matara, Ambalantota, Rathnapura, Anuradhapura and Ampara.

As a result of the Vehicle Emission Testing programme and vis-à-vis, engine tuning programme for 2.2 million vehicle population and will lead to save around Rs. 2 million to the nation annually by 1% improvement of fuel consumption efficiency.

By adhering to this exercise, environmental pollution could be minimized at a greater extent and cost incurred for the treatment of heart and respiratory disorders would also be drastically reduced. Since the Government of Sri Lanka has taken a policy decision to regulate vehicle emission and fuel standards and thereby alleviating the environmental hazards and threats caused  to the health of general public. Therefore, vehicle emission testing programme assures clean air for breathing to present and future generations.
