A state of the art microbiological testing laboratory for drinking water has now been established at ISB premises at Kurunegala. This has fulfilled a long felt need of the people in the North Western Province, especially in the Kurunegala district. In addition to this new laboratory, ISB has facilities and competent staff to carryout tests for physical and chemical quality of drinking water which conforms to SLS 614 standard.
Everybody is concerned about the hygiene of the water we drink. Many people in the province tend to drink bottled drinking water rather than well water because of the fear they have on wide spreading Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This adds an additional burden to their day to day expenditure. But this additional expenditure could be avoided by testing their well water for its suitability for consumption.
In addition to the services provided to the industries, ISB has a great concern on the health and hygiene of the people living in the North Western Province. Therefore this new state of the art laboratory is a gift to the people living in the North Western Province by ISB.
Laboratory accreditation is the 3rd part attestation of the laboratory services provided by a certain testing laboratory to its customers by an independent institution whether it’s on par with the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017. The legally established institution for this purpose in Sri Lanka is the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (SLAB). Currently a project is underway to accredit the ISB laboratory under the technical assistance provided by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). By completion of this project, ISB laboratory will be accredited for ISO/IEC 1702:2017 international standard in 2019. This will give an international recognition to the test reports issued by ISB.
